In a recent Community Collaborative Newsletter, The Department of Health (DOH) explored whether monovalent booster doses can still be given. At this time, monovalent COVID-19 vaccines are no longer authorized as boosters for individuals 12 years of age and older. This is because updated bivalent boosters are available for this age group and offer the best protection against COVID-19 infection. For children aged 5-11, Pfizer-BioNTech monovalent COVID-19 vaccines may still be administered as boosters at this time. DOH anticipates bivalent boosters may be authorized for this age group in the future.
