As of February 28, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommends adults ages 65 years and older receive an additional dose of the updated 2023-2024 COVID-19 vaccine.
This recommendation acknowledges the increased risk of severe disease from COVID-19 among older adults.
People who are up to date on their COVID-19 vaccine have a lower risk of severe illness, hospitalization, and death from COVID-19 than those who are unvaccinated.
