The Washington State Department of Health (DOH) recently announced that children ages 5-11 are now eligible for the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine. DOH came to this conclusion based on expert recommendations, including those of the U.S. Food and Drug Association, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the Western States Scientific Safety Review Workgroup. The vaccine was found to be safe and more than 90% effective in preventing COVID-19 cases among younger children, as determined by the Western States Scientific Safety Review Workgroup.
DOH is confident that pediatric vaccination will help protect children in our communities and slow the spread of COVID-19. For more information on this topic, we encourage you to consult the resources included below.
