As people board buses, planes, and trains or stay with family and friends during summertime travel, it’s a good time to review COVID-19 testing and prevention options. Information is continually updated in the Frequently Asked Questions document posted in the materials library for the Community Directed Outreach program. Find facts on vaccination, masking, and more.
In addition to testing for COVID-19 when you have symptoms or have been around someone with the illness, it’s a good idea to test:
- When you’re going to or coming from an indoor gathering or a large outdoor gathering. Test as close to the time of the event as possible, and then three to five days after it. If you test positive, isolate at home for five days and wear a high-quality mask for another five days
- When traveling, take a COVID-19 test less than 24 hours before you leave and after you get back. If you test negative when you’re back at home, test again in three to five days.
Although most programs distributing home tests for free ended in May, people with Medicaid coverage (Washington Apple Health) can still get multiple free tests per month through drug stores that participate with Apple Health (“in network”). People should request the tests at the pharmacy counter and show their Apple Health membership card. This benefit will end September 30, 2024 (next year).
