Transportation can be a significant barrier for folks seeking COVID-19 vaccinations, but these helpful transportation resources are available to residents across Washington state.
For Those with Medicaid Insurance
If you are covered under Apple Health (Medicaid), the Health Care Authority (HCA) can provide transportation to non-emergency medical appointments, including COVID-19 vaccination appointments. To access this resource, you must have a current ProviderOne services card and no alternative transportation option, and the appointment must be covered by Apple Health. HCA recommends calling 7-14 days before your appointment to secure transportation. To book transportation to your COVID-19 vaccine appointment, consult this document or visit HCA Transportation Resources.
For Resources in Your Region
Depending on your area, a variety of transportation resources are available for those with COVID-19 vaccination appointments. In some areas, Uber, Lyft and other transportation services are offering reduced rates for those needing a ride to an appointment. In some cases, in-home support is available for those unable to secure transportation. Numerous additional ridesharing or helpline resources are also available. For a full list of regional transportation resources, consult this document compiled by the Department of Health: COVID-19 Vaccine Transportation Resources.
If the community you work with is encountering transportation barriers related to COVID-19 vaccination, please reach out to our DH team. We are happy to help you identify the resources in your area to ensure vaccine accessibility for all.
