New CDC COVID-19 Quarantine and Isolation Calculator Can Help Identify Next Steps After Infection or Exposure

April 27, 2022

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recently announced a new COVID-19 Quarantine and Isolation Calculator to help individuals identify what to do if they have COVID-19 or are exposed to someone with COVID-19. This tool may help individuals decide whether they need to isolate, quarantine or take additional measures to avoid transmitting COVID-19. Personal information is not required to use this calculator, but users will need to know the date they came into contact with someone with COVID-19, the date they were tested for COVID-19 or the date their symptoms began.

This tool is not intended for use by those who are moderately to severely ill, nor is it intended for the immunocompromised. If you are immunocompromised or experiencing symptoms like difficulty breathing or require hospitalization, intensive care or ventilation support, please talk to your health-care provider for guidance.

The guidance provided by the Quarantine and Isolation Calculator also does not apply to cases and close contacts from settings such as schools, health-care settings, and high-risk congregant settings. For information about isolation and quarantine in high-risk congregate settings and health-care settings, refer to COVID-19 Quarantine and Isolation. Parents and caregivers with children in K-12 schools or early care and education (ECE) programs should consult the program administrator for specific isolation and quarantine guidance in their school or ECE setting.

This tool can be accessed in Spanish, Vietnamese, Chinese and Korean.
