The National Association of School Nurses (NASN) and the Institute of Educational Leadership (IEL) with support from Kaiser Permanente recently announced a funding opportunity for projects to increase access to and confidence in COVID-19 vaccines and school-required vaccines for children, particularly in under-resourced communities.
Activities should address health equity, which is defined as all people enjoying a fair and just opportunity to be as healthy as possible. Activities should also focus on underserved and under-resourced populations most affected by barriers to vaccine access, including Native American, Alaskan Native, Latinx, Black, African American, Pacific Islander, immigrant and refugee communities, and unhoused people.
Examples of activities include:
- Social media campaigns addressing community-specific vaccine questions or concerns
- Personal outreach and engagement activities with families with school-aged children
- Hosting a community vaccination clinic offering childhood COVID-19 vaccines and school-required vaccines
- Providing incentives to increase vaccine uptake
In this funding cycle, awards between $10,000 – $30,000 will be given. Funded projects can start any time after August 1, 2022, and must be complete by December 15, 2022. All funds must be expended by the completion of the project and may not be used for non-grant-related activities. The deadline for submission of grant applications is 2 p.m. PST on September 30, 2022.
