A recent study published by the Journal of American Medical Association (JAMA) identified 12 symptoms linked to long COVID.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), of the more than 100 million people in the U.S. who have had COVID-19, as many as 15 million have developed prolonged symptoms.
The following symptoms are hallmarks of long COVID:
- Post-exertional malaise (i.e., symptoms that worsen after minor physical or mental activity)
- Disruption of smell and taste
- Chronic cough
- Brain fog
- Thirst
- Palpitations
- Chest pain
- Fatigue
- Diminished sexual desire
- Dizziness
- Gastrointestinal issues
- Abnormal movements such as tremors
JAMA says these 12 symptoms are not the criteria for a diagnosis, but instead a tool for further research. Read more about the study here.
