The Washington State Department of Health (DOH) created the WAshington coronaVirus Exposure Survey (WAVES) to help map the spread of COVID-19 in our state. WAVES began in May 2021 and invited 8,000 Washington state residents to participate in a survey, nasal swab and blood test. Now, additional Washington residents are invited to participate. Vaccinated and unvaccinated volunteers are needed, each of whom will earn up to $75 and receive free antibody testing.
UW Medicine and DOH intend to use the information collected in the survey to determine how many people in Washington have had COVID-19 and which communities have experienced the greatest exposure and burden of cases during the pandemic.
