Flu Update in Washington

February 12, 2023

According to the Washington State Department of Health (DOH), flu activity is now considered low, with cases steadily declining over the past few weeks. Between the second week of December and the first week of January, flu positivity rates have declined from 21% to 6%.

As of January 19, 168 people in Washington, including four children, have died from the flu during the 2022-2023 flu season. That’s more deaths at this time of year than during any of the past nine flu seasons. In their latest report, the DOH said people over the age of 65 account for 125 of the 168 flu-related deaths, or almost 75%.
