Two Years of COVID-19 Vaccines

January 18, 2023

December 2022 marked two years since the first COVID-19 vaccine was administered in the U.S. Since then, vaccines have prevented millions of COVID-19-related hospitalizations and deaths.

Staying up to date on the latest COVID-19 vaccines remains the number one way to protect yourself and those around you from serious illness.

According to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the updated bivalent booster protects against the original COVID-19 strain and omicron BA.4 and BA.5 variants in addition to restoring antibody protection that declined since the last vaccine dose.

Everyone over the age of 5 is eligible to receive an updated bivalent booster two months after the completion of the primary vaccine series or last monovalent booster dose. Visit the Washington State Department of Health’s Vaccine Booster Doses webpage to stay informed on COVID-19 booster information and access COVID-19-related resources.
